DESCRIPTION

Frank and Vrij commissioned me to storyboard a commercial for the PKN (unified Dutch protestant church) which was used as reference for the shooting. The overall concept is that we meet people from all walks of life singing a Christmas carol together. The message being that everyone is welcome at the church.

Setting the tone

Storyboarding is a quick and handy way to shape film before starting the costly process of filming with actors on location. In this case the storyboard gave the director a guide in the mood and style the film could ideally be shot in if the practical situation allowed for it.

Office scene

Here the director stayed pretty close to the boards.

Homeless scene

Although no establishing shot was used, I think the final film captures the mood set out in the boards pretty closely

Hooker scene

A hard scene to get right. I like how the rain on the window worked out in the shoot.

Busdriver scene

Some scenes like this deviated more from the storyboard, but it works out.
