DESCRIPTION

ASN Bank, a sustainable bank in the Netherlands commissioned Mr. Lee / Douwe.works to produce 5 short animations about 4 core values of the bank's investment policy; Child Labour', 'Peace & Safety', 'Fair Trade' and 'Sustainable Energy'.

I work with a great team on these 5 animations as art director, storyboard artist and character animator.

Style identity

This project had an open briefing, the style of the production had to be conceptualised from the ground up. This was a great art directional challenge. But a really fun one.

Everything is connected

Early on we decided we wanted a connected world to show how everything is related. A continues camera through a 3D setting seemed the best approach.

4 worlds 4 colour schemes

I thought it would be nice to have each subject have a main colour theme that is dominant in the compositions.

Defining palette

This helped me further picking palette colours.

Early concept

An early visual concept for the Sustainable energy animation.

3D test

Based on this concept a 3D mockup was made. That I then worked on in photoshop to a look.

For later campaign use this image was made - you see the style in it's full glory.

Fair trade

Lets look at development of one other of the subject animations - fair trade. Here the main point is that farmers in the 3rd world wont get a fair deal if the lowest possible prize market is driving all decisions. ASN Bank finances fair trade projects with savings of their costumers.
